Jazz vocalist Joan Davis was born in Washington D. C., the cosmopolitan capital of America's East Coast. As a child her father took her to see such greats as Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie and Oscar Peterson at the legendary Howard Theatre. As she grew up she was often drafted into performing on stage, and even sang for President Lyndon B Johnson.
Throughout her career as a vocalist and songwriter the elements of nature versus urban existence have provided a dramatic resource of images to express her vision of life through words and music.
Joan is currently involved in conducting voice training courses and workshops, as a natural complement to her career as a prolific jazz vocalist and writer.
Her colourful career in the United States included solo performances at The Cellar Door and One Step Down in Washington D.C. She has played with some of the great jazz musicians of our time, including Gil Scott Heron and Bobby McFerrin.
