WHAT ABOUT JOAN

Joan Davis was born and raised in the U Street Corridor of Washington DC of African American heritage.
Throughout her life, she has always embraced a mixture of funk, folk rock, and World music. Washington's very eclectic mixture of cultures provided a diverse music scene. Joan was often tempted by the capital's nightclubs and bars echoing music into the night. She loved sneaking in via side doors to watch live music performances of all styles of everything Music!
Her thirst for music has given her a 'good ear' and broadened her vocal range into a style she calls 'Soul - Jazz' and 'Acoustic Soul'.
"I believe the voice is an expression of the soul, where you can hide. It is a way of exposing yourself, then declaring yourself and facing the world."
She's passionate about mixing styles, crossing genres and hearing music evolve.
"It's like a language, it has to change and develop otherwise it'll die. Purists should be hauled into jail for their stagnant attitudes."
Joan's collaborations with artists Tony Kofi, Tony Remy, Byron Wallen, Jean Toussaint and Anders Olinder (to name just a few) produce an original mix and a unique sound. Joan likes to work with "skilled, open-hearted, engaging musicians, who listen create and collaborate to transcend way beyond the box! I have learned so much from the wonderfully talented people I have had the privilege to work with"

BEAUTIFUL CONVERSATIONS
You may believe there’s a situation
And there’s no communication
You may believe there’ll be an altercation
As you make your preparation
To kill, boy, kill!
Ha-ha but I’m reading you
Ha-ha that right
Ha-ha but I’m reading you
Every day in your life
Like you could never read yourself
Like you never- never see yourself
Like a blind man on the shelf
Rapped up and– in the dark!
To make life a little clear
It is I who holds up the mirror
Fear and deprivation
It is I who can see your frustration Man you need to get free!
Hold on I’m comin
Hold on I’m runnin'
Hey I’m on the case
Face to face, eye to eye
You ask me why?
Who am I?
I am your brother
Your sister, your mother
A stranger on a train
Someone you met in the rain
Hey I may even be your Enemy
The world, God
It’s just you and me and nature
Look in and see
It’s just you and me
Beautiful conversation
Beautiful confrontations
Hey look in and see
It's just and me!
